Cllr Tony Page opens The Biscuit Tin at Station Hill

Reading Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Councillor Tony Page today officially opened the new coffee shop and Temporary Events Space at the Station Hill development in Reading town centre.

The exciting new venue has now opened its doors to the public, and is bringing life back to the Station Hill area. Managed by Red Bean Coffee, The Biscuit Tin which was named in reference to the town’s industrial heritage, is now open daily as a coffee shop and bar for the enjoyment of commuters, office workers and families alongside special one-off events.

An expert team of Red Bean Coffee baristas will be serving coffee sourced from the finest growing regions across the world, with a breakfast and lunch menu. The Biscuit Tin also offers customers a wide selection of locally sourced sweet treats and mezze boards throughout the day and will be showcasing award-winning real ales and ciders, brewed locally by West Berkshire Brewery and Tutts Clump Ciders.

Constructed from two reclaimed shipping containers, The Biscuit Tin will have both indoor and outdoor seating, including a timber roof deck and will be open from 6.30am through to 11pm Monday – Saturday, reduced to 10.00am – 10.00pm on Sundays.

With demolition on site now complete, the opening of the Temporary Events Space is the next major milestone for the Station Hill development. Once complete, the mixed-use development will comprise 930,000 square feet of highly flexible office space, alongside 150,000 square feet of retail and over 450 homes, making Station Hill the largest mixed-use development of its kind in the South East. Architecture of character and quality, refreshing and interesting retail, and diverse residences all combine to create an urban quarter of rare personality and interest.

Tim Shaw, Manager at The Biscuit Tin:

“With locally sourced food from top producers, every visit to Red Bean will be a memorable one. Whatever your taste, our coffee is sourced from the finest growing regions across the world, roasted in Yorkshire, and served here in the Biscuit Tin, Reading. We also believe that there is a real synergy between excellent coffee and traditional beers and ciders, and we’re proud to stock locally produced beverages from Tutts Clump Ciders and West Berkshire Brewery. The Biscuit Tin is the ideal place to take time out of your busy day and relax and unwind, or ‘grab and go’ and make use of our excellent takeaway service.”

Speaking at the event: Councillor Tony Page, Deputy Leader of Reading Borough Council and Lead Member for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said:

“It’s a pleasure to look out from Reading Station and not be confronted by the grim view of the dilapidated old buildings on Station Hill which blighted the area for so long. People arriving by rail now receive a much more welcoming first impression of the town centre. I hope the new pop-up park will become a destination in its own right. Reading’s residents and visitors have already been enjoying the new public open space and I’m sure The Biscuit Tin will provide an assortment of entertainment and activities to keep attracting more visitors over the summer months.”

Jason Margrave, Director at Stanhope:

“We are delighted to be opening The Biscuit Tin at Station Hill. This vibrant, bustling coffee shop and events venue gives a flavour of the community space we will be creating as part of our 1 million square foot development in the near future.“

Located at the heart of the town centre, with the revitalised railway station on its doorstep Station Hill knits different elements of the town together: old and new, north and south, east and west.

With a generous public piazza at its heart, Station Hill will be buzzing with energy providing places to sit and space to stroll. The elegantly curved steps draw the eye, leading you into an expansive and welcoming new public space. At ground level, an active mix of retail, dining and leisure will bring new variety and vibrancy to the town centre.
